BMW 3.0 CSL

In 1972, BMW introduced the 3.0 CSL. It was built on a chassis with five-link rear axle active suspension and double-joint spring struts on the front axle. The body was made from aluminum panels. A deep air dam and twin circular holes were used to reduce weight.

In 1973, the 3.0 CSL received an engine upgrade to a 3.2L. This increased displacement to 553 horsepower. As part of the engine upgrade, the cooling system was beefed up. The engine also came with a forged crankshaft. These features combined to make the 3.0 CSL a high-performance, street-legal racecar.

Lotus Esprit S1
